THE CONCEPT OF “COLLABORATIVE TECHNOLOGIES” AND ITS SIGNIFICANCE FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING

    The article discusses the concept of “collaborative technologies” and its significance in teaching foreign languages. The authors substantiate the importance of collaboration as one of the competencies required for XXI century students to be competitive in a modern labor market. In general, the process of collaborative learning stimulates both students and teachers to build a community of learners based on premises of mutual understanding. The article clarifies terminological discrepancies between the terms “learning technology,” “collaborative learning”, “collaborative technology”; and also shows differences in the understanding of collaborative and cooperative learning. The article also discusses the importance of introducing collaborative technologies into foreign language teacher training courses in Kazakhstan in connection with significant changes in the requirements for future teachers of foreign languages.
